Another Bun In The Oven!

Ever since Carter was born, Chris and I have been talking about how far apart we want our children to be.  For many different reasons, we both wanted our kids to be about two years apart. We did the math and that meant we needed to start trying around January.  Well, just like last time, I was very fortunate to get pregnant right away!  We got our first positive pregnancy test on January 21st!

So there you have it.  I have another bun in the oven!  My first trimester with Carter was challenging but this one has been straight up exhausting.  I’m on anti-nausea medicine from the time I wake up until it is time for bed.  I take one zofran at 7am, one at 2pm and then phenegran at 9pm. I’m almost 11 weeks along so I’m hoping all of this will soon pass!

For those of you wondering, I’m betting that it is a girl.  My Mom was much sicker with me than she was with Will.  Plus, the old wives tales say women are sicker when carrying girls.  I know every pregnancy is different but I will be shocked if we find out I’m carrying a boy!  It’s just crazy that this first trimester has been so much more challenging than the first time around!

Have we picked out a name?  Of course we have!!  Elise Ann is our girl name.  I love the name Elise and it’s a shortened version of Elizabeth, my Mom’s name.  Ann is my Grandma’s middle name, my Mom’s middle name and my middle name so it’s only fitting to pass it down to our precious little girl!

If we are having another little boy, we will probably name him Sutton Cade.  We haven’t decided with certainty but we both really like those two names.  We should be able to find out the sex of the baby in early May.  This feels like an eternity to me!

An update on Carter

Stacking blocks is a serious task, one the Carter does not take lightly!

Carter has officially taken his first steps!  I was actually buying him shoes at Stride Rite when I saw him take his first 3 steps!  He was wearing his new kicks and I was checking out.  I turned around to check on him and he just stood right up and walked towards me.  I was speechless!

His old daycare is relocating to a location even further away from our house so we made the decision to move Carter to Country Home Daycare.  We loved his teachers at Little Lighthouse almost as much as Carter loved them.  He used to be all smiles and would reach out for Miss Ashley when he saw her in the mornings.  Chris drops him off in the morning and says it’s so hard to leave him because he just looks up at him and cries when he leaves.  It is definitely an adjustment but I’m hopeful that with a little time, it will get better.  One fun thing about the new daycare is that three of my high school friends have kids in Carter’s class!

Until next time! xoxo

Name frustration

Ok, so this might be a bit of a ranting post, but I’ll try and make it short.   When we were choosing our baby names, I really liked Claire Elise, but would want her to go by her middle name, Elise.  That is now entirely out of the question.

Why?  I’m at my wit’s end with nicknames.  My name is Alexis.  Period.  There is no variation.  I continue to be called Alex ALL the time.  I have a particularly difficult Client that continues to call me Alex.  It now makes me cringe.  I know two people named Alex; both are male.

Classic scenario:

Me: Hi, my name is Alexis.  Chit chat, chit chat.
Other Person: Chit chat, chit chat.  It was great to meet you, Alex.

MY NAME IS NOT ALEX!!  I would never call someone by a different name, so why must people insist on calling me Alex?!!

I will save my child the frustration of name confusion, and give them one name.  No playing switcheroo or double first names.  Elise or Carter.  I can’t even think of a way to shorten either of those names.  Hopefully, no one else will be able to think of any variations either!

First Sonogram!

Q:  How did your first sonogram go on Tuesday?

A: Wonderful!  I spent almost an hour with my nurse practitioner.  Mom drove me to my appointment, and Chris met us there.  Baby Weigand did fabulous for his/her first portrait; we even have pictures to prove it!  I’m 7 weeks along, due around Valentine’s Day, just as we had anticipated.  Our baby is the now the size of a peanut or blueberry.  Chris is cute, as he’s always kissing my tummy and talking to our “little peanut.”  The doctor sent me home with lots of prenatal vitamins, reading material, and a prescription to help the nausea.

Q:  Have you gained weight?

A: Sadly, yes.  Focusing on a settled stomach is not the same as focusing on a healthy diet.  When I found out I was prego, I weighed 130lbs.  I now weigh 134lbs and feel like half has gone to my boobs and the other half has gone straight to my stomach!  I can’t believe I already have to buy new bras.  I thought that would come around month 4 or 5!  La Cantera mall, here I come!  Any brand recommendations for supportive bras?!

Q:  Have you picked out any names yet?

A: You all know me better than to even ask!  We’ve had our baby names picked out for over a year!  Of course, they are always changing, but these have both stuck for over 6 months.

Boy – Carter Allen Weigand. Allen is Chris’ middle name.

Girl – Elise Nicole Weigand. Elise is take on Elizabeth, my Mom’s name.  We are still unsure about the middle name, but Claire is also in the running! I’ve also thought about naming her Claire Elise, and calling her Claire Elise.  The double name scares me just a tad, because I don’t want it shortened to just Claire.  But then again, some days I really do like Claire!  Chris is partial to Elise as the first name.  Any thoughts?!

Craziest story you all have shared with me!

Quoting Grandma Marsha’s email (my Mom’s Mom)

“Do you feel that you have gained any weight yet?  With your Mom, I wanted to gain weight, so Jesse took me for a banana split several nights a week, but I only gained 18 pounds for the whole 9 months.  Same with Chris… That’s odd, isn’t it?  Then the day I left the hospital, BOTH TIMES, I had lost 19 lbs.  Wow!!! Now that I think about it…that’s just plain UNHEARD OF!”

My Mom had almost the same story, but she gained 23lbs, and had lost 24lbs, the day she left the hospital.  Please let me take after my Mom and Grandma!!
