Chris Opens Big Red Dog Engineering Firm

Carter LOVES his jumper!

Carter will be 7 months old in just two days!  Within the last two weeks, both of his bottom teeth have popped through.  The teething process hasn’t been too bad but the little guy is soaking through his bibs and putting everything in his mouth.  He likes to grab my face and yank it closer, giving me a very slobbery and wet kiss.  He then tries to teethe on some part of my face which has made for some funny video footage.

Chris opened the doors to his own engineering firm, Big Red Dog, last Monday.  We’re thrilled with this new venture and very excited about the projects he has already won.  He’s working out of our real estate office in Boerne and is thoroughly enjoying the short 15 minute drive to work.

Setting his own hours has allowed him to work a few weekly rides back into his workout schedule.  The hill country is truly a beautiful place for a cyclist to live so I’m happy he’s back in the saddle!  It has also been such a treat to have him home for lunch a couple of times a week AND have him home by 5:30pm!!

We hosted another successful dinner party last night!  It was great to see old friends and have new ones out to the house.  Lately, our weekends have been packed with social events and we’ve had a blast getting out of the house!  I’ve got two babysitters, Erika and Kari, who are seniors at UTSA and are sorority sisters and best friends.  Between the two of them, we can usually get away for almost any event.  It’s been so fun for us to get out for dinner dates and happy hours!

Carter is doing great and is still the happiest little guy ever.  He plows through four homemade meals of pureed meats and veggies a day and washes it all down with a couple of bottles.  The chunkster weighs over 19 pounds.  I’m 100% ready to make a very large donation to the inventor of baby jumpers.  Carter can spend hours in his jumper, completely entertained!  The jumper and the Bumbo are have been life savers!!

We’re off to go swimming at Mimi’s! Until next time!

Carter turns 6 months!

The last three weeks have been pretty trying for the three of us.  As soon as Carter went into daycare, he got sick and we had to keep him home.  After three weeks of sickness, he is finally feeling better.   We took him to his doctor for his 6-month check up and she said he had a basic case of daycare-itis.   He likely picked up some type of cold from the other kids.  Although it was a common cold, it has taken him three full weeks to recover.

The doctor went on to tell us that if Carter remained in daycare, he would continue to get sick twice as much as if he were at home.  I knew all of this; I guess I just didn’t realize what a toll it would take on his little body.   I’ve got a girl named Erika that comes to the house to watch Carter on Wednesdays, but other than that, the little munchkin and I now spend our days together.

Our little guy is not so little anymore, weighing in at almost 18 pounds!  He’s still nursing and we are still supplementing with formula.  Just recently, Carter really started to get the hang of eating from a spoon!  I was so excited to be able to cook for him, I spent an entire evening cooking and pureeing organic sweet potatoes, green beans, corn and every fresh fruit we had in the fridge.  Carter now has an array of frozen fruits and veggies but he’s plowing through them rather quickly.

To celebrate the fourth of July, I invited our friends over for a BBQ and put Chris to work on the grill!  He marinated and grilled three racks of ribs that were mouth-watering.  I made a couple of batches of watermelon margaritas, which seemed to really hit the spot.  We had a huge spread with lots of appetizers, sides and dessert!  Carter was dressed to impress in an adorable seersucker outfit from his Mimi, but he managed to spit up and soak it before I could get a picture!

Carter is now wearing 9-12 months clothing.  I’m having to pack away so many cute clothes, sigh.  I just hope all these pureed foods don’t stain and ruin his cute clothes.  Carter’s favorite activity is to blow bubbles when he’s done eating.  I cannot explain what a mess he makes!!

That’s about all for this time!
