Bed Rest for 3 months :(

This last week has been pretty stressful.  I’ve continued to have bleeding and major headaches since I was released from the hospital, exactly one week ago. I would classify yesterday’s headache as my first migraine.

I started experiencing abdominal pain this morning, so I called my doctor and she asked me to come in immediately.  I have to give a quick shout out to my girlfriend, Lauren Keller, for picking me up in less than 10 minutes and getting me to my doctor’s office!!  THANK YOU LAUREN!!  (Lauren is having her first little girl in only 6 weeks!!)

Chris met me at my doctor’s office and after exams, monitoring the baby and lots of questions; we were assured that Baby Carter is doing just fine. 🙂

I have a 7:30am appointment tomorrow morning with a specialist.  He will take hi-def scans of the placenta to try and find out what is causing the bleeding.   He will also be the one to determine my sanity for the next 3 months.  Translation, he will decide if I can do bed rest out of my house, or if they will have to keep me in the hospital for the remaining 3 months.

After we get results back from the specialist, I will go back into the hospital to receive 2 shots of steroids, to help the baby’s lungs mature.

I just read this online, Injections of corticosteroids for fetal lung development has been praised as one of the best advances in fetal medicine in the 90s. Since 1994 the National Institutes for Health and other professional organizations has encouraged their use in promoting the development of fetal lung development in moms who were at risk for preterm labor or birth.”

That’s about all we have for now.  I promise to post an update tomorrow, hopefully from my bed and not the hospital’s bed!!

Thank you for all the phone calls and emails.  It really does help to know that we have such loving friends and family.  🙂

P.S.  Have I mentioned that my husband is a Saint?!! He has taken care of everything, and has done it all with a warm smile.  Also, thank you Mom, for the caldillo and cookies, and thank you Ginna, for the cupcake and magazines!!

  1. Sending love, hugs and prayers to you and Baby Carter! XOXOXO ~Angie

  2. Hope all is well with you and the baby! My wife will be 28 weeks Wednesday and we are waiting to go to a specialist because the doc can’t see all of her spine like they want to so of course we are driving ourselves crazy worrying about what could be wrong! Hope you do get to have your bed rest at home as well, if it comes to that!

  3. Hi Alexiis,

I am thinking of you and the baby. I am not sure if you have the same condition as my Mom but I was a placenta previa baby (placenta ahead of the baby) and my Mom had bleeding for a while before I was born at around 8 months of pregnacy by C-section. That was a longggggg time ago with none of the new advances so I am sure that you are in good hands.

  4. Alexis & Chris,
We are thinking of you…..everything will be okay. Please keep us posted with your progress.

    Love,

Just know that we have you both and little Carter in our thoughts and prayers. I know it will be a long 3 months, but the end result will be fabulous.

    All my love

    Auntie Lisa
