Babymoon in Seattle and Portland!

We leave this Wednesday morning, for our babymoon to Seattle and Portland!!  We are super excited and spent all of last night booking our hotel, train ride and reviewing restaurants!

Restaurant Week, Seattle

If you’ve never heard the term babymoon before, you’re not alone.  I heard if for the first time this year, and immediately loved the idea.  Here is Wikipedia’s definition:

A babymoon is a period of time that parents spend bonding with a recently-born baby. More recently the term has come to be used to describe a vacation taken by a couple that is expecting a baby in order to allow the couple to enjoy a final trip together before the many sleepless nights that usually accompany a newborn baby.

A last hoorah with the hubby, before countless sleepless nights?? Yes please!!

I started thinking about a fun destination for our babymoon.  I was watching the show, Bethany Getting Married, when they went on their babymoon.  If you watched the episode, you’ll remember she went on somewhat of a pub crawl.  Instead of trying out different bars and drinks, she and her husband tried every restaurant imaginable, and ate their way through their babymoon!

As a pregnant lady, nothing seems more fun that eating your way through a city known for their culinary expertise!!  I thought about places with great food and decided to book a trip to Seattle and Portland!  Fresh seafood, here we come!!!

I then had to set a date.  When is the best time to visit a city??  During Restaurant Week, of course!!  Every city has a week where their top restaurants create a lavish 3 course meal, all for $25pp.  Each restaurant puts their best foot forward with a fixed menu for lunch and dinner.

I Googled the dates for Seattle’s restaurant week and was thrilled to see it was scheduled for October!

We are spending 4 days in Seattle, devoting our time to eating and shopping!  We are then taking a scenic, 3-hour train ride to Portland, to see my Grandparents!  There, we will focus on eating and shopping as well! 😉  We might even get to go salmon fishing with my Grandpa, pending the weather cooperates.

I’ll be sure to post lots of pictures and restaurant recommendations upon our return. If you want to view some of the restaurants participating in Seattle’s Restaurant Week, click here.  This website will also give you the fixed menus, reviews, and details of the restaurant.  Let me know if you have a personal recommendation!

Quick 23 week prego update:
Weight: I have remained the same weight for 2 weeks, woo-hoo!!  I’ve gained exactly 15lbs to date.

Clothes: I’m 100% in maternity clothes. Gap Maternity and Destination Maternity have been saviors.

Carter: Is an active little tyke!  We love feeling his kicks. Our next apt. is the day we get back from our babymoon.  During our last appointment, the doctor said everything looks perfectly normal and very healthy!

Baby stuff: Chris and I babysat Jack Lamy in Austin this past weekend.  He’s just over a year old and is the cutest little peanut EVER!  We tested out all of Mama Leslie’s baby gear, including car seat, jogger, stroller, etc.  We took Jack to Buy Buy Baby, and he was our model child, helping us try out all the strollers and gadgets.  He loved the attention and we loved the experience! We can only hope that our little man will be as sweet and well mannered as Mr. Jack-a-roo! We came home missing Jack, but so excited to meet Baby Carter!!

  1. Considering your babymoon restaurant destination,
You might find this website interesting
    http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/fishmercury.htm

  2. Cassie,
Yes, I have a similar webpage bookmarked, for when we eat out! Luckily, my favorite seafoods are all listed under the safest/lowest mercury section. Scallops, Calamari, King Crab, Lobster and Shrimp!!!

It’s really just the larger fish, we preggers should stay away from. Thanks for the site!! Love that you are already “in the know,” for when you are expecting!
