Top 5 reasons to get pregnant this year!

11 weeks pregnant, Molly's wedding

I’m now 11.5 weeks and on the brink of my second trimester…finally!  I experienced a lot of nausea and fatigue during my first trimester.  My nausea medicine would ware off around 4:00pm, so by the time Chris got home from work, I was usually curled up on the couch, in the fetal position.  I now feel like myself again!

A lot of my followers are girlfriends that are thinking about joining the Mommy Club within the next couple of years, so I’m dedicating this post to all of you!

I cannot wait until you get preggers!  I’ve already forgotten about the nausea and truly love being pregnant.   There are SO MANY positives; they really do outweigh the negatives.  I’m creating a punch list of my favorite things, thus far.

1) FOOD.  I have to eat something at least every 2 hours.  This is sheer joy for me!  I’m 3 months along and even though my appetite has soared, I’ve only gained one pound.  I’ll be honest, my insides have started to expand, so I am bigger, but the scale doesn’t show it.  As long as you are eating healthy, you don’t have to hold back, and you can eat as much as you want!! It’s great not to have to feel guilty for eating!!

2) PRODUCTIVITY. I’ve never felt so productive on Saturdays and Sundays!  With no alcohol in my diet, I’m up early, everyday!

3) STRONG NAILS.  I now have manicured nails!!  The day you get pregnant, you will have stronger, longer nails! I went for a mani/pedi the other day and for the first time in MY LIFE, the lady had to clip my fingernails before filing them down.  I was beaming!  It’s the small things that make me smile.

4) HORMONES.  I’ll save the details, but not all hormone surges are bad.   You get my drift? 😉

5) INSTANT CONVERSATION.  Once you announce that you are expecting, you will never lack conversation with any woman.   Everyone will tell you about their experience!  I’ve found it fun, especially listening to my Mom’s friends reminisce about their pregnancies.

So there you go!  My top 5 reasons you girls should jump on board!  Don’t forget that the sooner you jump on board, the closer in age our babies will be!  This means more play dates!!  Love you all!

P.S.  I almost labeled one reason Excitement, but quickly found out I would write a novel.  These are just little positives to pregnancy.  I can’t begin to explain how excited you become to meet the new addition to your family.  The whole process is truly a miracle!

Gender Reveal – How To?

We are due to find out the sex of our little kumquat in late September.  We find out when we have the second ultrasound, which is performed between week 18 and 20.  It’s not 100% certain we’ll find out, but if Baby Weigand minds the doctor and spreads his/her legs, we should be able to determine the sex.  No worries, I’ll be having a very serious talk with Baby Weigand before we enter the doctor’s office.  This time only, Mommy is encouraging wide open legs!

If you are new to the blog and wondering where “kumquat,” came from, it’s from!  They previously sent me an email saying, “Congratulations, your baby is now the size of a kumquat!”  A kumquat is an orange fruit, about the size of a kiwi.  Needless to say, we have advanced from “our little peanut,” to “baby kumquat!”

I’ve been thinking about how we are going to reveal the gender to Mom and Dad.  My girlfriend, Stacie Long, gave me the CUTEST idea ever!!  Since we will be revealing the gender the week of Dad’s birthday, I’m going to bake a cake and have the inside be blue or pink!  They’ll have to wait until we cut into the cake, to find out the gender of their little grandbaby.  How cute is that?!!!  I found the CUTEST cakes on this link to Gender Reveal Parties.  Let me know which cake is your favorite.  I like the one that is covered with pink and blue dots, like below!

Gender Reveal Cake

Since my brother will be present, I’m going to have to place the cake on a covered cake plate and literally duck tape the top down!  I can already see prying fingers trying to dig into the cake!  It’s so cute, he keeps telling me, “Sissy, I’m really excited to be an Uncle.  When are you due?”  Speaking of cake plates, here is the one I have.  I love it because it doubles as a punch bowl.  It’s only $30 at Williams Sonoma.

Since we will be celebrating Dad’s birthday, it will be the ONE and ONLY time buying for him will be EASY!  It’s so hard to buy for my Dad, since he usually buys whatever it is he really wants.  I might be guilty of that as well!  I’m super excited about his birthday this year, because there are tons of cute Grandpa clothes and knick knacks out there!  I just can’t wait to find out if I’ll be buying everything in Blue or Pink!!

If anyone has any other cute ideas about gender revealing, please share!!

The new Casa de Weigand!

First, I need to clear the air of any and all gossip that we are having twins.  No, we are not having twins.  The last ultrasound showed only one healthy beating heart; not two, (THANK GOD!).  So what is our big news?!!!

We’re buying our dream home!!!  Chris and I have been passively looking at new homes since we found out that I’m expecting.  We have looked at many homes, but really want a single story home with 4 bedrooms.  We of course have many other features we are looking for, but that’s the main criteria.

We have been eyeing a certain house for a while, but it has remained well out of our price range.  About one week ago, the Sellers re-listed and significantly dropped the price!  Chris and I made an offer immediately and after nail-biting negotiations, WE GOT IT!!  I’m thrilled because in negotiations I got them to agree to leave the refrigerator, ALL window coverings and both the 70” flat screen in the living room and the 46” flat screen in the master bathroom! WOO-HOO!

The home is located in the Springs at Boerne Stage, less than 5 miles from where we live now.  It’s a wonderful neighborhood full of custom homes that sit on larger lots.  Our new home sits on .6 of an acre!  It will be quite an upgrade for us since our current home sits on .13 of an acre.  Here’s a link to the pictures of 23811 Verde River.

I think the house shows much better in person, but you can see the basics in these pictures. 😉  We close on the new house on August 26th, right before Chris’ birthday on the 29th!  I plan on cooking a super fun meal and celebrating his birthday in our new home!  We have our current house on the market; so spread the word to any friends that are looking in our area!  Here is a link to our current home at 6638 Shady Bend Drive.

We are looking forward to getting moved in and having you all over for dinner, VERY SOON!

First Pregnancy at 10.5 weeks

I’m now 10.5 weeks and have attached a bump picture from last night.  Chris made his famous shrimp etouffee and I was showing more than normal, after all the feasting! 😉

First Bump Picture

Bump Picture, 10 weeks

Let’s talk about bump pictures.  When my friends are pregnant, I’m constantly bugging them for bump pictures.  I just LOVE them!!  Unfortunately, I haven’t had any friends that have been anxious to share their bump pictures with me.  I now get it.  Sending a picture of your growing belly, to all your skinny friends, is not exactly what I consider fun.

Taking my first bump picture has been on my To Do list for about 5 weeks now.  I keep reminding myself that I’ll want these pictures, to reflect on my growth.  The problem was I could not muster up the energy or excitement to take a picture of my growing bump.  If it was just my belly that was growing, maybe I would be more excited about it.  The fact is, it’s still very early in the game and I’ve grown…everywhere.

Let me ask you this, when you’re having a “fat day,” do you get excited to take pictures of your stomach and then send it to all your friends?! No, you don’t.  Well neither do I, but I’m going to TRY and drop the negative attitude right now, and start by posting my first bump picture.

Only positive thinking from here on out! 😉

Tuesday night, Chris was out entertaining Clients and I was spending the evening on the couch with my puppies, watching The Bachelorette.  When I got up, I realized I was finally starting to look pregnant.  My bump is now a legitimate bump, especially after a big dinner. 😉

I went directly upstairs and took my first bump picture.  So for all my friends that have bugging me, here you go!  I’m going to try to post a picture every two weeks.  We’ll see if I can follow through!

Alexis, 10 weeks pregnant

P.S. I have very big news, but Chris just got home for dinner!  I promise to post the news tomorrow! 😉

Alcohol and Pregnancy

Texas Wine

We all know that alcohol and pregnancy don’t belong in the same sentence.  My normal pre-pregnancy nights usually consisted of a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, or a couple of Chris’ knockout dirty martinis after a long day.  Unless we came back from the gym super late, I had at least one or two drinks a night…every night.

Before Chris and I started trying for a baby, we often talked about how the pregnancy would go, and how it would change our daily routine.  Alcohol was always a big subject, simply because we are so social and LOVE our wine!  At the time, I had friends who were pregnant and they HATED not being able to drink with their spouses and friends.  I assumed and feared I would feel the same.

How wrong I was!!!  To my amazement, I have thoroughly enjoyed detoxing!  I haven’t craved alcohol at all!  Sure, with the summer temperatures reaching close to 100 degrees, an ice-cold beer or frozen Caribbean concoction sounds appetizing, but it doesn’t kill me that I can’t have one.  If we are by the pool with friends, I’ll have the bartender make me a mocktail!  For those of you wondering, mocktails are simply nonalcoholic cocktails.  Thanks to my friend Stacie, I’ve found tons of great recipes for mocktails online

We attended Veronika and Vlad’s (our wedding photographers!) pool party this past Sunday.  While everyone else was spending their precious calories on alcohol, I was able to feast on the buffet and a box of Crispy Crème doughnuts!  Veronika asked everyone to bring a dish, and one of her friends brought a couple of boxes of freshly made Crispy Crèmes.  Genius!!!

Nutritionists are always talking about alcohol and empty calories.  They warn us that a drink or two a day will eventually pack on the pounds.  I never really worried about my weight, so I ignored their advice.  Well, I have been eating three times as much as I used to, and I’ve been losing weight!  I know I’m eating for two, but let’s be serious, my little peanut is no bigger than a real peanut!!!  How much can he/she really be eating?!

The best part about giving up alcohol is the extra calories I can expend on yummy foods!!  Don’t worry though; my diet consists of lots of healthy fruits and vegetables, not just Crispy Crèmes!

I challenge you all to give up alcohol for one week!  I’ll admit, I would have laughed at you, had you proposed the same to me, but now that I’ve done it,  I LOVE IT!  It’s amazing how a healthy diet and no alcohol can make you feel wonderful!  Cheers to mocktails for the next 6 months!

Below are pictures from our last Fredericksburg wine tour.  We celebrated Stacie’s birthday at Rather Sweets and then I chauffeured everyone around the local wineries!  Chris and I finished the evening with fresh peach cobbler, homemade peach ice cream, and spicy pickles from a little roadside barn.  Nothing beats Fredericksburg peach cobbler!!

Funny Story from First Sonogram

I had my first sonogram a little over a week ago.  As soon as Mom found out my appointment was scheduled, she emailed me, letting me know she really wanted to join me.  Of course I said yes!

Mom picked me up and drove me into the doctor’s office, where Chris was waiting for us.  After filling out lots of paperwork, they called all 3 of us into a tiny office with the nurse practitioner (NP).  Since this was our first formal appointment, she went over ALL the basics.  This included nutrition dos and don’ts, safe and harmful medicines and the reassurance that we can have as much intercourse as we like.  She also made a point to reassure us that regardless of the position, we cannot hurt the baby at this stage of the pregnancy.  Since all of you reading this blog are either good friends or family, you know that one rolled right over me but probably killed Mom and Chris!

The NP leads us into the examining room.  She announces that I am due for a pap and that if Mom wants, she can stand behind the curtain.  If you could have only seen Mom’s face!  She most definitely took her position behind the curtain, cookbooks in hand.  Again, I didn’t think much of the whole situation.

During the pap, I had some questions for the nurse, including a couple regarding sex.  The pap was over in no time at all and they wheeled in the sonogram machine!  The NP then told Mom she could come out from behind the curtain b/c we were all about to see the little peanut on-screen.

Mom emerges from the curtain still looking a bit shocked.  I had forgotten to mention to her that the first sonogram is done vaginally.  The baby is too small to have them do the belly one.

Again, all of this is really no big deal b/c we soon are all enamored with a blinking on the screen.  Baby Weigand has a beating heart!!!  I’m already flushed with pride and Chris is beaming at the visual reassurance that he is in fact a Daddy-to-be!

We leave the doctor’s office with 20+ samples of prenatal vitamins, lots of books and two pictures of Baby Weigand!

Later that night, when Chris gets home, he’s making dinner and in a very annoyed manner, says, “way to ask sex questions to your doctor when your Mom is in the room!  Also, I can’t believe the doctor told us we could have as much intercourse as we like, in any position…ALL IN FRONT OF YOUR MOM!!!  Seriously, way to go babe!” My response, “oh whatever, Mom was behind the curtain.  Besides, how do you think the little peanut was made?!”

At this point, I’m cracking up at the situation.  I text the scenario to Mom and within seconds she has called me and is screaming/crying/laughing over the phone, “you tell Chris I’m on the same page as him!! I thought I was going to see my little peanut of a Grand-baby by them rubbing gel on your stomach!  I had NO CLUE I would be there for ALL of that!!!”

Moral of the story: Be sure are remind all family members that your first sonogram is performed vaginally.  Also, parents cannot handle any mention of sex talk, before/during/or after Grand-babies.  They are much like children and prefer to believe a stork will be delivering their sweet grandchild.  🙂
